Wildlife problems we see in Pickering
Few GTA cities have this much green around them. The Rouge valley forms Pickering's western edge, Duffins Creek runs down the east side to the lake, and Frenchman's Bay sits in the middle of the waterfront. Rosebank and Rouge Park back onto the national park, with older homes on wooded lots, while Bay Ridges, built in the 1960s, runs right down to the bay. Raccoons, squirrels and skunks treat these neighbourhoods as part of the park.
Amberlea, Liverpool and Dunbarton are mostly 1970s to 90s subdivisions, and Brock Ridge is newer. By now the trees in the older ones are big enough to reach the roof, and the original wood fascia and soffit has weathered for decades. Whitevale, up on Duffins Creek, is a heritage hamlet of 19th-century homes with all the gaps that come with that age.
Wherever the house is, the way in is at the roofline: a soffit corner, a roof vent, the junction of two roofs, an uncapped chimney. A raccoon in the attic in Rosebank has usually come up from the Rouge, and the opening it used is often on the side of the house you can't see from the street.
Raccoon removal in Pickering
Raccoons move between the Rouge, Duffins Creek and the lakeshore all year, and from late winter to early summer the females look for an attic to raise their kits. Heavy footsteps after dark, a torn roof vent or a soffit pushed up at the eaves are the signs.
Kits are checked for before removal so mother and young stay together. Then the opening is sealed and the vent, soffit or roof repaired to match your home. Raccoon removal takes in the whole roofline.
Squirrel removal in Pickering
Squirrels are the daytime scratching and scampering, loudest around sunrise and before dusk. Pickering's grey and black squirrels chew in at soffit corners, fascia edges and roof vents, and the treed lots of Rosebank, Dunbarton and Whitevale make the climb easy.
They nest in the insulation and raise two litters a year, so every squirrel, young included, is confirmed out before the hole is sealed and the chewed spot repaired. More on squirrel removal.
Skunk, bird and bat removal in Pickering
Skunks are common near the Rouge, Duffins Creek and the bay, and they den under decks, sheds and porch steps from Rosebank to Brock Ridge. When the skunk has left, the base of the deck or shed gets wire mesh dug into the soil (skunk removal).
Sparrows and starlings get into uncovered dryer and bathroom vents; the nest is checked for eggs and young before the vent is screened (bird removal). Bats roost behind fascia and in attic gaps, most often in the older homes near the Rouge and in Whitevale. They are protected in Ontario, and we explain the method and timing before any work begins (bat removal).
Lifetime guarantee
Every entry point we seal comes with a lifetime guarantee, for as long as you own your home. If an animal gets back in through it, we come back and take care of it at no charge. Full terms are written on your invoice.
Common questions in Pickering
Can you come today?
In most cases, yes. Same-day service is available for requests received before 4 PM, subject to technician availability. If same-day service isn't available in your area right now, we'll tell you upfront and get you the next available time.
What's the 4 PM cutoff about?
Requests received before 4 PM local time give us the best chance of reaching your property the same day. Requests after that are usually scheduled for the next available slot — we'll confirm timing when you contact us.
I don't know what animal it is. Is that a problem?
Not at all. Most people who contact us haven't seen the animal, just heard it. Tell us what you're hearing and where, and our technician will identify it on-site.
Is the animal treated humanely?
Yes. We use humane removal methods suited to the animal and the situation.
Are you insured?
Yes. Good Neighbors Wildlife carries $5 million in liability insurance.
Will you need to come inside my home?
Usually, we can solve the wildlife problem entirely from outside without needing to enter your home. Some situations require access inside; your technician will explain what is needed.
Do you service my area?
We currently serve Toronto, York Region, Durham Region and Peel Region. Check our service areas page, or reach out and we'll let you know if we cover your area.
Do you cover Rosebank and Bay Ridges?
Yes. We cover all of Pickering: Rosebank, Rouge Park and Whitevale; Amberlea, Dunbarton and Liverpool; Bay Ridges on the waterfront; and Brock Ridge. Ajax and Scarborough on either side are covered as well.
How quickly can you get to Pickering?
If your request comes in before 4 PM, it qualifies for same-day service, subject to technician availability. Calls are answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and we confirm the time with you before a technician heads out.
