Wildlife problems we see in Ajax

Ajax has two very different kinds of older home. Pickering Village, now part of Ajax, is a 19th-century village with brick and frame houses under big trees. Central Ajax was built in the 1940s through the 70s, starting with the wartime homes around the old munitions plant, and those houses have wood fascia and soffit that has had a long time to weather. Both kinds give a squirrel plenty to chew on.

Riverside, Nottingham, Salem and Applecroft came later, mostly 1990s to 2010s two-storeys with aluminum soffit, several roof vents and attached garages, and Hermitage sits in between. Riverside backs onto Duffins Creek, and the creek valley is where much of the town's wildlife lives.

Then there is the lake. Lakeside and the waterfront trail bring skunks and raccoons right up to the back fences. Whichever neighbourhood you're in, something in the attic got in at the roofline, and the opening may be well away from where you hear the noise.

Raccoon removal in Ajax

Raccoons follow Duffins Creek and the waterfront into every part of Ajax, and an attic is their first choice for raising kits from late winter to early summer. The signs are heavy footsteps after dark and a roof vent or soffit that has been torn or lifted at the eaves.

We look for kits before any removal and keep the family together, then seal the opening and repair the vent, soffit or roof so it matches the house. Raccoon removal means the whole roofline, not a single corner.

Squirrel removal in Ajax

Daytime noise overhead is a squirrel, and in Ajax they are loudest at first light and before dusk. Soffit corners, fascia edges and roof vents are where they chew in, and the old trees of Pickering Village and central Ajax do the climbing for them.

With two litters a year, a squirrel in spring or late summer often means a mother and young in the insulation. All of them are confirmed out before the hole is sealed and the chewed spot repaired. See squirrel removal.

Skunk, bird and bat removal in Ajax

Skunks den under decks, sheds and front steps from Lakeside to Nottingham, and the creek and the waterfront keep them well supplied. Once the skunk is out, the base of the structure is meshed and the mesh dug into the soil (skunk removal).

Starlings and sparrows nest in open dryer and bathroom vents, busiest in spring; eggs and young are checked for before the vent is screened (bird removal). Bats roost behind fascia and in the attics of older homes, particularly in Pickering Village and central Ajax. They are protected in Ontario, so the method and timing are explained before any work begins (bat removal).

Common questions in Ajax

Can you come today?

In most cases, yes. Same-day service is available for requests received before 4 PM, subject to technician availability. If same-day service isn't available in your area right now, we'll tell you upfront and get you the next available time.

What's the 4 PM cutoff about?

Requests received before 4 PM local time give us the best chance of reaching your property the same day. Requests after that are usually scheduled for the next available slot — we'll confirm timing when you contact us.

I don't know what animal it is. Is that a problem?

Not at all. Most people who contact us haven't seen the animal, just heard it. Tell us what you're hearing and where, and our technician will identify it on-site.

Is the animal treated humanely?

Yes. We use humane removal methods suited to the animal and the situation.

Are you insured?

Yes. Good Neighbors Wildlife carries $5 million in liability insurance.

Will you need to come inside my home?

Usually, we can solve the wildlife problem entirely from outside without needing to enter your home. Some situations require access inside; your technician will explain what is needed.

Do you service my area?

We currently serve Toronto, York Region, Durham Region and Peel Region. Check our service areas page, or reach out and we'll let you know if we cover your area.

Do you cover Pickering Village and the lakefront?
