Wildlife problems we see in Newmarket
Newmarket's oldest homes sit along Main Street and around Fairy Lake, Victorian brick with wood trim, deep eaves and chimneys that were never capped. The Holland River flows past them and north out of town, and its banks and the trails around Fairy Lake are where the town's raccoons and skunks live. An old house with mature trees beside a river valley is about as inviting as it gets.
Huron Heights and Bristol-London were built in the 1970s and 80s, Glenway and Armitage mostly in the 80s and 90s, and by now their trees are big enough to touch the roof and their wood fascia has had decades of weather. Stonehaven, Summerhill and Woodland Hill are newer and larger, with long rooflines, more vents and more soffit, which is more for a raccoon to test.
North of the subdivisions it turns rural quickly, so bats and skunks are a bigger part of the picture than in a city neighbourhood. A squirrel in the attic in Glenway probably chewed in at a soffit corner; in a Main Street home it may have come down the chimney.
Raccoon removal in Newmarket
Raccoons work the Holland River and the ravines, and a warm attic in Newmarket is prime real estate from late winter to early summer, when the females are raising kits. Heavy, slow footsteps after dark are the giveaway. They tear roof vents open, lift soffit at the eaves and, on the older homes, come straight down an uncapped chimney.
Kits are the first thing we look for, so mother and young leave together. The opening is then sealed and the vent, soffit, chimney or roof repaired to match your home. Raccoon removal covers the whole roofline.
Squirrel removal in Newmarket
Daytime scampering overhead is a squirrel, busiest at first light and before dusk, and Newmarket's black and grey squirrels chew in at soffit corners, fascia edges and roof vents. The mature trees of Glenway, Huron Heights and the Main Street area give them an easy route up.
Litters come twice a year, so a squirrel in spring or late summer is usually a mother with a nest in the insulation. Every squirrel is confirmed out before the hole is sealed and the chewed spot repaired. More on squirrel removal.
Skunk, bird and bat removal in Newmarket
Skunks den under decks, sheds and front steps all over Newmarket, and the river valley and the rural edge keep the supply up. Once the skunk is out, wire mesh is fixed along the base of the structure and dug into the ground (skunk removal).
Starlings and sparrows nest in uncovered dryer and bathroom vents; we check for eggs and young, then screen the vent (bird removal). Bats roost behind fascia and in attic gaps, most often in the older homes near Fairy Lake and Main Street. They are protected in Ontario, so timing is explained before any work begins (bat removal).

Common questions in Newmarket
Can you come today?
In most cases, yes. Same-day service is available for requests received before 4 PM, subject to technician availability. If same-day service isn't available in your area right now, we'll tell you upfront and get you the next available time.
What's the 4 PM cutoff about?
Requests received before 4 PM local time give us the best chance of reaching your property the same day. Requests after that are usually scheduled for the next available slot — we'll confirm timing when you contact us.
I don't know what animal it is. Is that a problem?
Not at all. Most people who contact us haven't seen the animal, just heard it. Tell us what you're hearing and where, and our technician will identify it on-site.
Is the animal treated humanely?
Yes. We use humane removal methods suited to the animal and the situation.
Are you insured?
Yes. Good Neighbors Wildlife carries $5 million in liability insurance.
Will you need to come inside my home?
Usually, we can solve the wildlife problem entirely from outside without needing to enter your home. Some situations require access inside; your technician will explain what is needed.
Do you service my area?
We currently serve Toronto, York Region, Durham Region and Peel Region. Check our service areas page, or reach out and we'll let you know if we cover your area.
Do you cover Stonehaven and Glenway?
